China pledges to provide 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the world

According to SCMP, China pledged to provide 2 billion doses of a COVID-19 vaccine this year, and also donated $ 100 million to the United Nations Covax vaccine sharing initiative.

President Xi Jinping said that China always respects the concept of a human health community, provides vaccines to the world, especially developing countries, and actively implements production cooperation.

At a global health conference in May, Xi said China had provided 300 million doses of vaccine to more than 80 countries. Beijing also pledged to spend $3 billion over the next three years to help developing countries.

Last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that China has provided more than 700 million doses of vaccines to other countries since the beginning of the year.

Vaccine expert Tao Lina said China can produce 5 billion doses a year and only needs half of them to vaccinate about 1.4 billion people. This means that China can supply a large number of vaccines to the rest of the world.

The above commitment was made in the context of countries looking for supplies and speeding up vaccinations

to combat the spread of the Delta strain. The widening disparity in vaccination coverage in high-

and low-income countries is one of the top concerns of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to WHO, there are about 50 doses of vaccine for every 100 people in high-income countries.

This rate has now doubled from May. Meanwhile, in low-income countries, the average 100 people have only 1.5 doses of vaccine due to lack of supply.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on August 4 called on high-income countries to

postpone the planned third dose booster vaccination so that the world has a chance to meet the target

of all countries immunizing at least 10% of the population. number at the end of September.

“We need an immediate reversal of vaccine distribution. Instead of focusing on high-income countries, now vaccines must be prioritized for low-income countries,” Tedros said.

However, some countries are still planning to give additional doses of the vaccine in the hope of increasing the level of protection for people vaccinated against Delta mutations.

Israel has become the first country to deploy three doses of COVID-19 vaccine for people over 60 years old.

France also plans to implement this strategy from September.

The German Ministry of Health also plans to deploy the 3rd injection to boost immunity for

immunocompromised patients, the elderly and people in nursing homes from next month.

Ronaldo Asks Man Utd board to Replace Solskjaer with Zidane

According to El Chiringuito, Cristiano Ronaldo has advised Manchester United’s board to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Zinedine Zidane.

Following a 4-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, Solskjaer has been under greater scrutiny.

The Red Devils have lost three matches in the Premier League.

United’s leadership is said to have given Solskjaer their full support, believing the 48-year-old would enhance the team’s performance.

Senior officials at Old Trafford, on the other hand, are weighing their alternatives and have identified him as a viable contender, based on Ronaldo’s proposal.

According to the report, Zidane has met with United’s management, but he is interested in succeeding Didier Deschamps as France’s new head coach.

It’s also been reported that Zidane was approached by both PSG and Newcastle United, but the former Real Madrid manager declined both offers.
