China wants to take the lead in adopting new internet protocol

China wants to achieve global leadership in next-generation IPv6 internet protocol by 2025 as Beijing prepares for the Internet of Things (IoT) era.

According to a document released this month by the Cybersecurity Administration of China,

National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Industry and Information, China is planning to increase IPv6 users to 800 million by 2025, with 70% of online traffic relying on the new protocol.

This plan suggests that China will have a “single stack” network by 2030, completely replacing the existing

IPv4 protocol that has been in place since the early 1980s.

According to regulators, Beijing’s authority to promote the implementation of the new protocol because it is

“an inevitable trend in internet upgrading, a key direction of cyber technology innovation,

and an important supporting infrastructure for a country.”

Regulators say China must accelerate IPv6 adoption, or risk “falling behind if it doesn’t move forward or doesn’t move fast enough”.

State-owned enterprises, the financial sector, industrial applications, education networks, healthcare systems, transportation, media, and national media are the areas where IPv6 is required.

According to the South China Morning Post, the total number of IPv6 users in the mainland reached 127 million

in June 2020, less than 143 million in the US and 358 million in India.

China is also behind in terms of penetration rate of the new protocol, with only 24% using IPv6 in the same period

compared to 54% in the US, 52% in Japan and 61% in Germany.

However, as of May 2021, China has overtaken India to take the number one spot in terms of total IPv6 addresses,

with 528 million users, representing more than half of the country’s internet users, according to the report released by the Cyberspace Administration of China.

The biggest benefit of the new protocol is that it can generate many unique IP addresses.

IPv4 provides about 4.3 billion addresses, meaning that all available addresses are likely to be exhausted as more and more computers and devices are connected to the internet.

Meanwhile, IPv6 can generate an almost limitless number of unique IP addresses.

Network Box CEO Michael Gazeley said technological advancements in recent years, including network address

translation (NAT), allow different devices to share an IP address and make the need to increase upgrading to

IPv6 becomes less urgent.

“There’s no overwhelming pressure to switch to IPv6 tomorrow morning,” Gazeley said.

However, China has ambitious plans for smart cities, smart factories, and smart homes.

That will create an explosive demand for IP addresses from sensors and devices.

The government plan has been designed to introduce IPv6 in a “smooth and controlled manner”.

Ronaldo Asks Man Utd board to Replace Solskjaer with Zidane

According to El Chiringuito, Cristiano Ronaldo has advised Manchester United’s board to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Zinedine Zidane.

Following a 4-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, Solskjaer has been under greater scrutiny.

The Red Devils have lost three matches in the Premier League.

United’s leadership is said to have given Solskjaer their full support, believing the 48-year-old would enhance the team’s performance.

Senior officials at Old Trafford, on the other hand, are weighing their alternatives and have identified him as a viable contender, based on Ronaldo’s proposal.

According to the report, Zidane has met with United’s management, but he is interested in succeeding Didier Deschamps as France’s new head coach.

It’s also been reported that Zidane was approached by both PSG and Newcastle United, but the former Real Madrid manager declined both offers.
