Instagram Unveils New Features to Block Racist, Sexist, Homophobic and Other Abusive Comments From Randos

Instagram has unveiled a set of tools aimed at protecting users, notably celebrities and high-

profile producers, from nasty comments made by those who aren’t their regular followers.

Limits, a new feature of the Facebook-owned app, will automatically conceal comments and

direct-message requests from individuals who don’t follow you or who have only recently

followed you. This, according to Instagram, could be useful for prominent people who are

receiving a flood of nasty comments or DMs, such as the racial threats made at English soccer

players after their side lost the Euro 2020 final last month.

Hidden Words, an opt-in tool that Instagram introduced in certain countries earlier this year

and is now rolling out internationally, is the second feature. Abuse DM requests are

automatically filtered into a secret folder, so you never have to see them.

In addition, Instagram will issue “stronger warnings” to users who attempt to submit

potentially harmful remarks, a tool that executives claim has been proved to deter users from

publishing problematic content.

In a blog post, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said, “We believe these new capabilities will

better safeguard individuals from viewing harmful content, whether it’s racist, sexist,

homophobic, or any other form of abuse.”

After witnessing creators and famous personalities get an influx of comments and DM

requests from individuals they don’t know, Instagram introduced Limits. It may be an

outpouring of support in certain circumstances, such as when an athlete becomes viral after

winning an Olympic gold, but it can also be unpleasant remarks or messages, as happened

after the Euro 2020 final.

According to Mosseri, “a lot of criticism toward prominent personalities comes from those

who don’t truly follow them, or who have only lately followed them, and who just pile on in

the moment.”

He stated that he wanted to “limit contact from those who might only be coming to your

account to target you,” and that he wanted to “limit contact from persons who might only be

coming to your account to target you.”

Meanwhile, when someone attempts to submit potentially harmful remarks, Instagram has

already displayed warnings — and if they try to post the same item numerous times, the app

displays an even harsher warning. According to Mosseri, instead of waiting for the second or

third comment, “we’ll convey this harsher message the first time.”

Instagram has displayed warnings reading “This may go against our standards” around 1

million times each day on average in the previous week. The individual who was issued such

warnings altered or erased roughly half of them.

“We recognize there is more to be done,” Mosseri continued, “including enhancing our

systems to detect and delete abusive content more quickly and holding people who publish it

Ronaldo Asks Man Utd board to Replace Solskjaer with Zidane

According to El Chiringuito, Cristiano Ronaldo has advised Manchester United’s board to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Zinedine Zidane.

Following a 4-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, Solskjaer has been under greater scrutiny.

The Red Devils have lost three matches in the Premier League.

United’s leadership is said to have given Solskjaer their full support, believing the 48-year-old would enhance the team’s performance.

Senior officials at Old Trafford, on the other hand, are weighing their alternatives and have identified him as a viable contender, based on Ronaldo’s proposal.

According to the report, Zidane has met with United’s management, but he is interested in succeeding Didier Deschamps as France’s new head coach.

It’s also been reported that Zidane was approached by both PSG and Newcastle United, but the former Real Madrid manager declined both offers.

Tinubu is rumored to be eyeing the presidency in 2023.

Despite the outpouring of support from his fans, the former governor of Lagos State has stayed mute about his presidential ambitions.
