The Taliban and New Challenges in Afghanistan

The Taliban and New Challenges in Afghanistan

The Taliban is facing a series of challenges on many fronts after taking control of

Afghanistan and the departure of US troops.

After 20 years, the Taliban has returned to the apex of power in Afghanistan.

However, taking over power comes with enormous difficulties.

Lack Of Trust

One of the biggest challenges facing they are facing is building trust among the Afghan people.

During the period of power from 1996-2001, the Taliban governed the country with strict

Islamic law, banned women’s access to education, harshly fought against political rival forces

and groups of people and minority religions.

After taking control of Kabul, the Taliban pledged to establish a softer institution that

guarantees women’s rights. The Taliban representative has held dialogues with influential

parties in the political arena such as former President Hamid Karzai, dealing with the Shia Hazara Muslim minority.

However, the fear of the people, especially women is said to be still overwhelming

and many people think that it is still to be seen what actions the Taliban take, according to AFP.

The next challenge that the Taliban needs to address immediately is an economic and humanitarian crisis.

Afghanistan is currently one of the world’s poorest countries, with international aid

accounting for more than 40% of GDP by 2020. However, most aid has been frozen

since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The Taliban cannot now get their hands on

the funds of the central bank of Afghanistan being held in the United States.

They need funds to pay government employees and maintain essential services such as electricity, water, and communications.

The United Nations recently warned of a possible humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan,

when food reserves are very low due to constant conflict and severe drought.

Although they have a large income as an organization, it is considered not enough to meet the needs of an entire country.

The problem of specialized human resources is also what they need to solve.

With the withdrawal of Western troops and the departure of the old government,

a large number of talented people also left Afghanistan to avoid having to live under

the control of the Taliban.

These people include civil servants, bank managers, doctors, engineers, professors.

Anticipating this brain drain, the spokesmen in recent days have repeatedly called

on Afghans to have expertise. subjects do not leave the country.

Diplomatic And Security Challenges

Regarding foreign affairs, they face the risk of isolation if there are no changes compared to the previous ruling period. At that time, only three countries including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the UAE recognized the new government.

Over the years, the Taliban is said to have tried to communicate with many parties to build an image in the international arena, including Pakistan, Iran, Russia, China, and Qatar. To date, most countries have made cautious statements, waiting to see the actions of the Taliban.

The threat of terrorist attacks is also what makes the Taliban wary, especially the feud with the Islamic State (IS). ISIS’s Afghan affiliate, ISIS-K, recently carried out a suicide bombing outside an airport in Kabul that killed more than 170 people, including dozens of Taliban members.

Although they are both Sunni Muslims, IS is considered to interpret Islamic law in a more extreme way.

In a statement claiming responsibility for the Kabul bombing, ISIS-K called the “apostates” and criticized the Taliban for working with the US to evacuate foreigners, interpreters, and spies working for the army for many years. The Taliban must now protect the Afghan people from the attacks their fighters have carried out over the years. In addition, the Taliban must also keep their international commitments not to allow organizations such as IS and al-Qaeda to use Afghan territory to attack countries.

Following a 4-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, Solskjaer has been under greater scrutiny.

The Red Devils have lost three matches in the Premier League.

United’s leadership is said to have given Solskjaer their full support, believing the 48-year-old would enhance the team’s performance.

Senior officials at Old Trafford, on the other hand, are weighing their alternatives and have identified him as a viable contender, based on Ronaldo’s proposal.

According to the report, Zidane has met with United’s management, but he is interested in succeeding Didier Deschamps as France’s new head coach.

It’s also been reported that Zidane was approached by both PSG and Newcastle United, but the former Real Madrid manager declined both offers.
